Re: Question 2 Data Driven Decision Making Monday, 12 November 2012
After reading the article, the learning management systems seem to be a beneficial way to assess students and allow teachers to understand specific areas where a student may need assistance. Although as an educator I wouldn’t rely just on this system to identify the strengths and weakness of my students, I could see it being a great additional tool in identifying challenges and working to help student’s learning improve.
On a scale of 1-10 my confidence in collecting and using data to help student learning improvement in the classroom at this point would be a 3 or 4. I don’t have much experience using and collecting data. With learning more about the specifics of this system I am sure I would feel more confident eventually. I wish I saw this taking place in my field experience this semester but I have not. I do believe that my host teacher has the kindergartners working on an online program for reading and math skills but I haven’t been told much about it. To use data effectively, I would need to learn more about the learning management system.
Re: Question 1 Web 2.0 Monday, 12 November 2012
I enjoyed this article on the Web 2.0 and found it to be very informative. I thought it was very interesting that Northwood Elementary school’s faculty uses a moodle. This is such a great idea for the teachers of the school to be able to get direct feedback from the principal on lesson plans, collaborate and share ideas, and all without loads of paper, using the web for this is so much easier. Another idea about moodle I liked was having a weekly newsletter for staff members to share information and ideas and all be able to contribute and converse with one another on the website. Using moodle for a weekly newsletter instead of sending out many emails would be a more organized way of communicating among staff. I found this article to have a lot of useful information on using the Web 2.0 and I would like to know more about Ning, Jing, and RSS Feeds. I have never used those programs before and they seem like great learning tools.
